Is this where we talk about year-end championships?
The Next Gen finals should be as compelling as the WTA. This thread will probably serve us until the Australian Open.
Here’s Justin Gimelstob discussing Domi’s Sweet Cheeks: Sock is down 0-3 in the first set. Super bummed Del Po won't be in London, that would have been great.
The oldest big-name player managed to play a full season (Venus) but couldn't deliver in her biggest moments.
You have a number one who can't win big matches (Halep), a potential great champion who continues to choke (Muguruza), and a few up and coming Americans who, despite endless WTA publicity, remain woefully inconsistent (Keys, Stephens, Vandeweghe). seems to be in perpetual decline, empty stands internationally are becoming more frequent, and there are literally no stars ready to carry the sport forward once the marquee players (all of whom are Over 30) retire.
The sport leadership continues to attempt to sweep its biggest issues under the table (performance enhancing and match-fixing), and insist on telling everyone how great the health of the sport is. As always, we hope for a great next season, but 2017 was sorely lacking.
I was hoping to see Delpo in the ATP Finals but I guess the only way he's get there is if both Rafa and Fed don't show up. I am guessing Djoker and Misery will be back in 2018 and wil likely easily dominate the rest of the year like Rafa and Roger did in 2017 which is too bad given their lack of charisma.
The rise of Sock is leading to the death of men's tennis. He says he didn’t vote at all in the presidential elections, but won’t be drawn on who he would have voted for. Translated into Murcan, that’d be a ringing endorsement for the Trumptard, I reckon.
